Srinagar, Nov 03 (KNO): Political reactions poured in on Tuesday after National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi announced his resignation from the party and his decision to relinquish his Lok Sabha seat.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Congress attributed his exit to ideological differences with the National Conference, while the PDP said resignations would not address the key issues facing Jammu and Kashmir.
JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra said Ruhullah's differences with the NC appeared to stem from divergent political views and a possible lack of ideological compatibility.
"He had a different perspective, while the party was moving in a different direction. Perhaps there was also a lack of ideological compatibility," Karra said.
Karra, however, asserted that the Congress remained aligned with the National Conference.
PDP MLA Agha Syed Muntazir Mehdi said repeated resignations would not address the issues confronting the people of Jammu and Kashmir, including political concerns and reservation-related grievances.
He also questioned the existing reservation framework, saying a large section of the population had been left with limited opportunities.
Aga Ruhullah announced his decision to quit the National Conference and relinquish his Srinagar Lok Sabha seat at a public rally in Budgam. He also said he had submitted his resignation to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla—(KNO)
