Budgam, Sep 15 (KNO): To curb the transportation and sale of unsafe food items within district Budgam, the district administration has constituted special Flying Squads comprising members from all concerned departments, including Police.
In addition, Budgam Police has established a naka at the main entry point of the district to strictly monitor the movement of such items, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
During a joint market inspection conducted on 14th September 2025, the Flying Squad seized rotten meat from two separate locations in Budgam district.
Subsequently, police said that a case under FIR number 255/2025 was registered at Police Station Budgam against Wazwaan Point Restaurant, and FIR No. 143/2025 was registered at Police Station Magam against Big Boss Restaurant, Magam for selling rotten and unhygienic wazwaan items prepared from meat.
Legal action under Sections 271, 272, and 275 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 has been initiated against the offenders, police said.
Meanwhile, Budgam Police strongly warned that such violations pose a serious risk to public health and will not be tolerated.
Market inspections and strict monitoring shall continue across the district, and stringent legal action will be taken against any individual or establishment found involved in selling rotten, substandard, or unhygienic food items—(KNO)
