Budgam, Oct 19 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) on Sunday officially announced Aga Syed Mehmood as its candidate for the upcoming Budgam Assembly by-elections.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the party said as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), “On the directions of the party leadership, JKNC has announced Agha Syed Mehmood as the party’s candidate for the upcoming Budgam Assembly election. The party extends best wishes to him for a successful campaign in service of the people of Budgam.”
The Budgam segment has been a traditional stronghold of the National Conference with the party enjoying support of both Sunni and Shia communities.
The announcement came a day before the deadline for filing nomination papers.
Meanwhile, Aga Muntazir Mehdi announced on his facebook handle that he will file nomination papers as a PDP candidate on Monday.
Muntazir, who lost 2024 assembly elections by 18000 votes, is the son of Aga Syed Hassan, who is president of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shiayan
The Budgam by-election is scheduled to be held on November 11, with counting on November 14. The seat fell vacant after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chose to retain his Ganderbal constituency following his dual win in the 2024 Assembly elections—(KNO)
