Inclement Weather: DSEJ issues SOPs for safety of students, staff | KNO

Jammu, Aug 20 (KNO): Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) on Wednesday issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors during inclement weather conditions. As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), all Heads of Institutions in Jammu division are directed to strictly implement some Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including vigilance and safety of students, precautions for schools near water bodies. The SOPs issued by Director School Education, Jammu directed all the HoIs to conduct regular inspections of school premises, including buildings, boundary walls, roofs and electrical systems, to identify and immediately address potential hazards. It also prohibits students from assembling in open grounds, under trees, or near electrical poles during storms, heavy rainfall, or lightning. The heads also directed to maintain updated contact details of parents and guardians for emergency communication and inform them promptly when necessary. Moreover, schools located near rivers, streams, canals, or ponds asked to exercise heightened caution during heavy rain or flood warnings. Identify and communicate evacuation routes to staff and students in advance. Spend outdoor activities in low-lying or flood-prone areas during inclement weather. Coordinate with local administration and disaster management authorities for timely alerts and support. The heads of Institutions are personally accountable for ensuring compliance with these safety protocols. Each school must establish a Safety Committee to monitor preparedness, guide students, and report incidents immediately. Any negligence or lapse in implementing these SOPs will be treated seriously, with Heads of Institutions held solely responsible. The schools are also directed to educate students on safety measures and procedures to follow during inclement weather to ensure preparedness and awareness. These SOPs are designed to prioritize the safety and well-being of all school community members. Heads of Institutions are urged to act swiftly and diligently to enforce these guidelines—(KNO)
