J&K cognisable crimes drop to 22,577 in 2024; Ladakh reports 460: NCRB | KNO

Srinagar, Jul 21 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir recorded 22,577 cognizable crimes under the IPC/BNS in 2024, marking a decline from 25,127 cases in 2023 and 25,915 in 2022, according to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data tabled in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Ladakh reported 460 cognizable crime cases in 2024, marginally up from 459 in 2023 and 439 in 2022. The figures were shared by the Ministry of Home Affairs in response to an unstarred question in Parliament. The Ministry said the latest published NCRB report pertains to the year 2024 and is compiled after collecting and validating crime data digitally from all States, Union Territories and metropolitan cities through a dedicated software application. According to the data, accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Uttar Pradesh registered the highest number of cognizable crimes in 2024 with 4,30,552 cases, followed by Maharashtra (3,83,044), Madhya Pradesh (2,82,874), Delhi (2,75,402) and Bihar (2,38,753). Across the country, a total of 35,44,608 cognizable crimes were registered during 2024—(KNO)
