Srinagar, Jan 31 (KNO): The Ladakh region is all set to host the 4th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games which will feature ice hockey and speed skating as the main events. A senior official, speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the games are scheduled to take place from February 02 to 06 at three different venues in Leh. The official assured that preparations have already commenced in the region to ensure the success of this annual event. He said efforts are underway to guarantee a smooth and high-profile event, with a focus on infrastructure, accommodation facilities, security arrangements, and other essential aspects. Venues for the event include NDS Sports Stadium, Guphuks Pond and Ladakh Scout Regimental Centre (LSRC). The official said the preparations align with the standards set by the Sports Authority of India, and ensure proper arrangements for both players and spectators to avoid any hurdles. Regarding participation, he said that players from at least 15 different states of the country are expected to compete in the games in Leh, Ladakh. Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Information & Broadcasting, is anticipated to inaugurate the event in Leh, although no official confirmation has been made. "Invitations will be extended to J&K Governor Manoj Sinha, LG Ladakh, MP Ladakh, and CECs of both Kargil and Leh," he said. The official said this is a significant moment for Ladakh Union Territory to host the prestigious event for the first time. "We are fully preparing to host this event successfully. This is a prestigious event, and we aim to continue hosting such events in the future," he said, adding, "Ensuring the satisfaction of sports authorities and players, we are committed to providing top-notch venues and infrastructure."—(KNO)
