Joint enforcement squads to monitor Eid livestock mandis: ADC

Sopore, May 21 (KNO): Ahead of Eid ul Adha, the Sopore administration for the first time has made veterinary screening mandatory for all sacrificial animals to ensure that only medically fit livestock is allowed for sale and sacrifice in markets across the sub district. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the administration has directed that every animal brought to livestock mandis and sale points in the sub-division will now undergo ante mortem medical inspection by certified veterinary teams before being cleared for sale. To implement the directions, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sopore, S A Raina said dedicated teams comprising Veterinary Assistant Surgeons and other officials have been deployed at major livestock markets and town centres. The teams have been tasked with examining animals for diseases, infections and overall fitness to safeguard public health and ensure quality livestock for consumers. The administration has also constituted joint enforcement squads comprising Revenue officials, Food Safety Officers, Police personnel and representatives from Municipal Council Sopore and Municipal Committee Watergam to monitor the process and ensure strict compliance. The administration appealed to the public to purchase sacrificial animals only from authorised locations where veterinary screening teams are present—(KNO)
