Rotten Meat: Gbl Police files 2 FIRs; accused arrested | KNO

Ganderbal, Sep 05 (KNO): To ensure public health safety, Ganderbal Police have registered two FIRs against stockists and food outlets for storing and selling rotten mutton and expired eatables. Police received reliable information about a person allegedly selling rotten and unhygienic frozen meat at Kondabal Safapora, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). Acting swiftly, a team from Police Station Safapora, accompanied by the Food Safety Officer and the Executive Magistrate, inspected the shop of Abdul Hameed Lone S/o Ghulam Hassan Lone R/o Kondabal. During the search, a considerable quantity of boiled meat items (Rista & Kabab) was recovered in a rotten and unhygienic state, unfit for human consumption. An FIR (No. 14/2025) under sections 271, 272, 274 & 275 BNS was registered at Police Station Safapora. The accused has been arrested, and investigation is underway. In another case, Police Station Ganderbal received information that the owner of Hotel Matamal Food Sale Point at Beehama was using expired food items in cooking. On inspection, expired eatables were seized from the kitchen. An FIR (No. 145/2025) under the same sections of law was registered, and the accused was also arrested. Meanwhile, Ganderbal Police assured the public that strict action will continue against such practices, and those endangering public health will be dealt with sternly under law—(KNO)
