Srinagar, Sep 30 (KNO): As a significant move to tackle the growing traffic congestion in Srinagar, the district administration Tuesday said that it is working on a comprehensive, scientific decongestion plan to ease vehicular movement across the city. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo said that efforts are underway to streamline traffic flow through coordinated action involving all key departments, while also improving public infrastructure in high-footfall areas. Speaking about developments, the DC Akshay Labroo, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that two important tehsil offices including Eidgah and Khanyar are being developed to better serve the public. “Both tehsils were operating from rented accommodations. Today, we started work on the new office for Tehsil Eidgah, while the Khanyar tehsil office project is in its final stage,” he said. The DC added that such projects are crucial in areas where public footfall is high, as they help reduce unnecessary movement and ease pressure on roads. Highlighting the broader traffic plan, the DC said that decongesting a city like Srinagar cannot be achieved through isolated measures. “It requires coordinated efforts from all line departments, including Traffic Police, Revenue, R&B, SMC and others. Together, we are working on practical ideas for short-term, mid-term, and long-term solutions,” he said. He said that a detailed meeting with all stakeholders was recently held to discuss and finalise key design interventions. “In the next 10 days, we will finalise the plan and submit it to the Divisional Commissioner and the government. After that, its implementation will begin, ensuring Srinagar’s traffic is decongested in a scientific and planned manner,” DC Labroo added—(KNO)
