Srinagar, Aug 15 (KNO): Thousands of Shia mourners participated in the Zuljanah procession on Friday, marking Arbaeen, a day of solemn reflection observed 40 days after Ashura. The procession moved through Khumeni Chowk in Bemina, drawing large crowds who paid homage to Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who was martyred in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. Eyewitnesses told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the atmosphere was deeply emotional with participants expressing devotion and reverence. Zahid Ali, a local from Bemina Srinagar, said he has been taking part in this procession for many years. “Every step reminds us of Imam Hussain’s sacrifice and the values he stood for,” he said. Another mourner, Tahir Khan added that Arbaeen is not just a time of mourning; it is a reflection of courage, patience and standing for truth even in adversity. “We feel connected to history and our faith through this procession,” he said. The procession featured recitations, and symbolic rituals honoring the martyrs of Karbala. “Our aim is to keep the memory of Imam Hussain alive and inspire the younger generation about his unwavering bravery,” said Adil Hussain, one of the participants. Notably, Arbaeen, one of the largest annual gatherings of Shia Muslims worldwide, commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his companions. Observed 40 days after Ashura, it serves as a time for mourning, spiritual reflection, and reaffirmation of faith. The day is marked by processions, prayers, and rituals symbolizing sacrifice, patience and the pursuit of justice—(KNO)
