Two-day national conference begins at GDCW Sopore | KNO

Sopore, Nov 12 (KNO): A two-day national conference on Frontiers in Basic Sciences: Advancing Climate Resilience, Drug Discovery and Epigenetic Medicine began on Wednesday at the Government Degree College for Women Sopore. The event, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) brought together researchers, scientists and students to discuss new directions in climate science, biomedical research and epigenetics. The inaugural session was graced by MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar as chief guest, while ADC Sopore Shabir Ahmad Raina, SSP Sopore Iftikhar Talib, Principal Amar Singh College Prof. Aijaz Hakak and Prof. Maryam Sarwat from Amity University Noida were among the guests of honour. In her address, Principal of the college Prof. Subeena Chilloo highlighted the importance of academic collaboration and praised the Organizing Secretary, Dr. Jaffar Bhat, for his efforts. Prof. Aijaz Hakak stressed on the urgent need to protect water bodies and the environment, calling for the revival of the traditional ethos of An Posh Tel Yel Van Posh. Similarly, Dr. Jaffar Bhat outlined the themes of the two-day event and linked basic science to applied research. Prof. Maryam Sarwat appreciated the conference’s focus on knowledge sharing and collaboration. Meanwhile, ADC Sopore Shabir Ahmad Raina commended the college for prioritizing climate resilience, calling it a critical issue. The event also saw the inauguration of the college newsletter by Dr. Khalid Bashir and his team, followed by the launch of the RFID-based library facility, which drew praise from visiting dignitaries. SSP Sopore lauded the college for promoting scientific dialogue at a community level, while MLA Irshad Rasool Kar assured support for developing the college auditorium. A vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Syed Murtaza Geelani, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries and contributors. Later, an awareness programme under Mission Yuva Udhyam Jagriti 4.0 was held in the auditorium. Coordinator Dr. Aadil Mohi Ud Din encouraged students to pursue entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunities through the Mission Yuva app and Skill Learning Hub, urging youth to move beyond dependence on government jobs—(KNO)
