Sopore, Nov 05 (KNO): The embankment of river Jhelum in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is rapidly turning into ‘Achan’, a garbage dumping site as the officials from Municipal Council as well as the local residents are allegedly throwing garbage into it.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Correspondent, eyewitnesses said that the local residents as well as the concerned Municipal Council is throwing garbage on the embankments of river Jhelum. They said that the garbage later flows in river Jhelum, thus polluting the water body as well.
Eyewitnesses said that the concerned authorities are turning their eye-blind over such activities and are silently allowing such happenings on the ground, adding that there should be strict action against those involved in the act so that the water body is preserved.
“On every morning, a vehicle of Sopore Municipality throws the accumulated garbage on the bank river Jhelum, which is causing infectious diseases in the locality,” the residents living in the vicinity told KNO.
An official in the Sopore Municipal Council, Sameer Jan termed the allegations as baseless and said that those found involved in the act will be dealt with strictly as per the law—(KNO)
