Public toilets in Handwara lying defunct, locals suffer | KNO

Kupwara, June 22 (KNO) : Municipal Committee Handwara has miserably failed to maintain the public toilets, which according to the locals have turned into major nuisance for public, creating foul smell in and around the area. The public toilets were constructed a year ago but the official apathy has turned these toilets into a nuisance for the public. The residents as per KNO Correspondent complained about the maintenance of toilets, saying that lakhs of rupees were spent for its construction but nobody s paying heed over its maintenance. “There are several public toilets in bus stand Handwara but all are defunct, causing inconvenience to the people, particularly to the women folk,” they said They appealed the concerned authorities to look into the matter. Meanwhile, an official from Municipal Committee Handwara said that, “The lack of adequate water in the bus stand has led to the defunct of these toilets.” However, he said that they will take steps to make them functional again and also sought intervention of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, appealing them to provide water facility.(KNO)
