Srinagar, July 13 (KNO) : The students of SSM College Parihaspora are up in arms against the authorities in Kashmir University (KU) for declaring ‘flawed’ results of second semester engineering students of the College. Talking to Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the aggrieved students said that the evaluates have not checked their answer scripts properly due to which maximum students have been declared as failed in the second semester exams. They said that the Kashmir University’s examination department has declared 507 out of 600 students as not-qualified in their second semester engineering (BE) exams. “This is complete mockery of the exam system practiced by the Kashmir University. How can all the students fail to qualify the exams,” the students told KNO. The SSM College of Engineering is a private college, affiliated with the Kashmir University. The exams of the students enrolled in the college are conducted by the Kashmir University. The agitated students said that all the students who have been declared as failed have been awarded 16 marks out of 50 while as candidate was supposed to obtain 20 marks to qualify the subject. “All the students have been awarded 16 marks which raise doubts on the KU’s flawed exam system. How can all the students get same marks? The KU authorities should revisit their result and make necessary corrections in it without wasting time of the students,” the dejected students told KNO. On Friday, the students also staged a protest outside the premises of examination department of KU but authorities were unmoved with the protests and the students returned disappointed. “Nobody in KU is ready to listen to our genuine grievances. The KU authorities take students for a ride,” the students said and threatened to submit their protest letter to Governor’s office who is also the chancellor of the university. “Kashmir University is playing with the career of students, from late examinations to flawed results university has times and again made students suffer,” they said. Controller examination KU, Prof Farooq Ahmad Mir was not available for his comments. However, a top official in examination department of KU told KNO that the varsity administration has taken cognizance of the student issue and the matter is being looked into. “We will submit some answer scripts for rechecking to check the evaluation and further action will be taken accordingly. The students can obtain Xerox of their answer sheet or apply for reevaluation as well,” the official said. (KNO)
