Srinagar, June 25 (KNO): The students who are enrolled in SSM College of Engineering Parihaspora in various M.Tech courses are worried about their career as the college authorities have failed to conduct semester examinations on time while as the result of only semester examination held in last two years have not been declared yet. In the past two years, SSM College of Engineering Parihaspora has conducted examination of only one semester for various M.Tech courses and the result of that semester is also pending—pushing its students to go for delayed degrees, the students said. The M.Tech students of 2018 batch told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they faced a number of problems from Kashmir University (KU) while pursuing their M.Tech courses. “It has been two years since we have got admission in SSM College and it is very unfortunate that we have only appeared in one semester examination,” the students said, adding that the result of that semester was also not declared yet. However, the officials of SSM College said that its 2018 batch is one semester behind from KU. “The exams of second semesters M.Tech course will commence from Thursday, however the students of SSM College are still behind by one semester from KU,” officials said. The students said they are aware of the circumstances that happened during the previous and ongoing academic year but the role of KU, which is giving affiliation to SSM College has also been lackadaisical. “The KU administration seems to be least bothered about the grievances of anxious students of SSM College even in this pandemic,” they told KNO. The students of SSM College got selected for a two-year M.Tech course by KU in 2018 through an entrance test and class work for their first semester commenced in October 2018. “After attending classes for almost six months, the course of Mechanical branch was changed from Thermal engineering to General Mechanical engineering that created a lot of issues and confusion among the students,” the M.Tech students said. “Our major theory paper first semester examination was held in the month of July 2019. It took the KU administration almost nine to ten months to hold our examinations. Irony is that no practical examinations have been conducted yet that is putting our career at stake,” the students said. They also said that they were provisionally promoted to second semester and were about to start the class work but after the August-05 decision, “we again lost our five months of academics.” “Our degree has been already delayed almost by six months, however, in rest of the colleges of across the India the students of batch 2018 are preparing for their 4th semester exam and will appear in the same in June 2020 through online mode but the students of Kashmir are still worried about their second semester exams,” the students said. Principal SSM College, Sajad Hussain Din said that the institution is dependent on KU. “The results were delayed because we have to wait for KU, which is conducting the examination,” Hussain said—(KNO)
