Pulwama, July 13 (KNO): In a sheer negligence, a patient from Pulwama district of South Kashmir was declared Covid-19 positive six days after his death at SKIMS Soura. News Agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) learnt that Muhammad Ashraf Mir son of Muhmmad Munavar Mir, resident of Nikloora village of Litter, Tehsil in South Kashmir's Pulwama district who died at SKIMS last Wednesday, was declared positive for Covid-19 today after a gap of six days. The relatives of deceased told KNO that after Mir complained of breathlessness, they took him to GMC Anantnag, where his sample was taken and after few days he was referred to SKIMS, Soura where his another sample was taken for Covid-19 testing. They said on Wednesday, SKIMS authorities asked them to wait till his report comes. “However, they asked us take the body saying that the deceased was negative for Covid,” the family members of Mir claimed. On Wednesday evening, Mir’s body reached home and on Thursday morning he was laid to rest in his native village. “Hundreds of his relatives and neighbours spent entire night wailing over the body of Mir while a large number of people also participated in his funeral,” they said. Today morning, the family members of Mir were taken by a big surprise when a medical team reached their home and asked them go with them for quarantine. “All of us were surprised after medical team asked us to get ready for quarantine,” said Ashiq Ahmed, a close relation of deceased Mir. “If we were supposed to go under quarantine, then people of entire village have to go under quarantine as they participated in the funeral of the deceased.” He said that when the samples of the deceased were already taken at GMC Anantnag, how come authorities at the SKIMS, Soura told them that he had tested negative. “You can't even imagine how many people came here for condolence and met his primary contacts and how many people they may have met since then in the past six days.” The family members of the deceased Mir have demanded a thorough probe into the entire testing process of the deceased Mir to find out possible negligence on part of the doctors. Meanwhile, experts say that this negligence of doctors can prove very dangerous and can prove super spreader of Covid-19. “This is a sheer negligence and this has put the life of hundreds of people at high risk,” he said. Dr Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent at SKIMS said that there are clear cut guidelines that if a patient whose samples are awaited, dies, his/her body can’t be withheld. Asked why reports came so late, he said that it happened only due to back log the reports that were received on July 08 were investigated today only—(KNO)
