Hurriyat (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, on Monday said that it was “unethical and unjustified” to participate in elections after joining  the funerals of militants. He, however, said, “youth of Kashmir lay their lives to end the age-old slavery of their nation”.

Paying tributes to the two slain militants in Padgampora encounter, Geelani said, “(these youth) are (thus) putting a huge responsibility on our shoulders (and) to honour these sacrifices and take the movement to its logical end.”

In a telephonic address to mourners who participated in the funeral of the militants, Geelani said, “I assure my nation that one day we will emerge as free nation.” He also asked people to “exhibit steadfastness and keep away from these shame elections”.

“It is a pious mission,” he said while referring to “ongoing freedom movement” asking people to spread his message to every nook and corner

Urging religious clerics to apprise people about “negative aspects of these elections”, Geelani asked them to inform people “about their duties towards freedom movement”. “India forcibly has occupied our territory and our youth are presenting their precious lives to resist this slavery,” Geelani added.

He urged people to boycott upcoming elections, saying that “participations in these tantamount to treason with the blood of martyrs”.  “They are two faces of the same coin,” the octogenarian Geelani said while referring to contesting parties (PDP, NC, Congress).

“They are cheating and through their deceit, these parties are strengthening the occupational forces. Don’t cast your vote in their favour and maintain distance from all these parties,” Geelani insisted.

“I want to convey you that after participations in funerals of our youth, it is unethical and unjustified to cast vote and offer support to pro-Indian parties,” he said. “It is prerequisite to convey a strong message to world community that we pursue a cherished mission of freedom and in no way, justify, defend or favour forced occupation.”
