Bhaderwah MC recovers large quantity of Polythene bags | KNO

BHADERWAH,JAN 21 (KNO) : Continuing with its drive against the use of polythene bags, a team of Municipal Committee Bhaderwah under the supervision of Executive Officer Mohd Ashraf Zargar and led by Sanitary Inspector Sukesh Kumar made surprise checks in various markets of Bhaderwah town here today. During the drive about 9.5 kg of polythene bags from different establishments were seized and a fine was also realized from the owners. Executive Officer Mohd Ashraf Zargar said the honorable high court has already banned the use and import of polythene adding that polythene is very harmful for all kinds of land, water and our forests and government has banned this all over the state here.Meanwhile locals hailed the action taken by Municipality and urged the concerned officials to ensure regular market checking to make full use of cloth bags in the town and other areas as well."The action is appreciable but more need to be done to kill the polythene pollution, the Municipal officials should regularly check the traders and vendors who are rampantly using and selling polythene bags" said civil society member Naseer Mehboob Padder .He added, "The authorities should also check polythene manufacturers and government should launch campaign to make the general public aware about the ill effects of polythene".(KNO)
