New Delhi, Dec 15 (KNO): The Union Government Monday acknowledged that the pass percentages for Class-10 and Class-12 students in Ladakh's government schools have declined. This drop follows the region's transition from the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) informed Lok Sabha that CBSE’s competency-based examination pattern differs significantly from the JKBOSE—leading to initial difficulties for both students and teachers in Ladakh. He added that the region’s short academic year and prolonged harsh winters further disrupt learning continuity. The Minister informed the house that the UT administration of Ladakh has initiated several measures to improve academic outcomes including winter coaching camps with residential facilities in Leh and Kargil, establishment of well-equipped libraries, laboratories and ICT labs in secondary and higher secondary schools, and introduction of vocational courses across schools. He further said that 37 PM SHRI schools, including 21 in Kargil, have been approved with enhanced infrastructure and smart classrooms and 130 subject-specific contractual lecturers have been appointed in Kargil district. In addition, the minister further informed that around 1,200 teachers have undergone CBSE-oriented training to familiarise them with new assessment patterns, and pre-board exams under the CBSE format are being conducted twice a year . According to the government, these interventions have started yielding results, with the Class 10 pass percentage improving from 53 per cent to 73 per cent and Class 12 results rising from 44 per cent to 48 per cent between the academic years 2023–24 and 2024–25 in Ladakh—(KNO)
