Srinagar, Jan 07 (KNO): Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level meeting to review the security scenario of Jammu and Kashmir among other thing in New Delhi tomorrow, officials said here on Wednesday. This will be the first high-level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in 2026. An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the meeting will be attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha besides senior officers of J&K Police, civil administration, intelligence agencies and top officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He said that the meeting will discuss various aspects of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, including steps being taken to ensure zero infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) during the winter months. He said that meeting will also review steps to intensify counter-terror operations to eliminate the remaining terrorists, especially foreign terrorists, and to crush the local support system, including the Over Ground Workers (OGW) network in Jammu and Kashmir. “The meeting will also discuss the current momentum and coordination among various security agencies, and ground-level operations with special focus on making 2026 a decisive year in the complete elimination of terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. Besides LG Manoj Sinha, top police and civil officers, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police (DGP), J&K Nalin Prabhat, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and heads of all CAPFs and Intelligence agencies will attend the review meeting. The meeting comes a couple weeks ahead of the 76th Republic Day celebrations across the country, including Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting also comes at a time when security forces have launched aggressive counter-terror operations in mountains and remote areas of the Jammu region to hunt down terrorists. The official further said that seniors officers are expected to apprise the chair about the coordinated strategy to eliminate terrorists hiding in difficult, inaccessible areas of J&K while ensuring zero infiltration on the LoC and the IB. During the past few months, security forces have engaged terrorists in several encounters in the upper reaches of Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur and other districts of the region as the infiltration attempts by the terrorists have been foiled on the LoC and the IB during this period. On Wednesday itself, an encounter took place between security forces and terrorists in the forest area of Kamadh Nallah in the Kathua district, with officials saying that despite darkness, thick vegetation and treacherous terrain, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police along with teams of CRPF relentless engaged the terrorists—(KNO)
