Srinagar, May 05 (KNO): A day after a nomadic woman was allegedly raped and murdered in Nishat area of Srinagar, the local market in Brein and Nishat Srinagar remained shut on Monday as a mark of protest. The incident has triggered public outrage and demands for justice. The woman, originally from Reasi and currently living in Nishat with her family, was allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals near the Water Works Road on Sunday evening. Following the incident, police registered an FIR and arrested four accused and launched an investigation. “This inhuman act has shocked us all. We want justice and strict punishment for the guilty,” said a local resident, Abdul Rasheed, while speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). The residents condemned the incident and called for exemplary action. “This crime has deeply hurt the community. We urge the authorities to deliver justice swiftly,” they said, adding the guilty should be hanged to death. Meanwhile, the incident happened on Sunday and has shocked the Kashmir valley, with condemnation and calls for strict actions pouring in from all corners of the valley—(KNO)
