'Kathua rape-n-murder' : CBI Will Submit Status Report Tomorrow : IG Crime | KNO

Srinagar (KNO) Murder and Rape case of a minor Kautha girl crime branch will submit status report to High Court tomorrow said Inspector Genral Crime, Syed Afadul Mujtaba. A girl has been identified as Asifa Bano. Asifa had been missing for a week one of the women from same locality last saw the girl at around 3:30 pm on January 10 2018 when she was taking her horses for water the daily said.

At from same day she did not returned home and the family feared she had been abducted. When Asifa did not return to her family till 11 January next day her family members reached the Hiranagar Police Station On 12 January 2018 for filling missing report there said one of the member of her family. On January 17 2018 body of a 8 years old muslim girl was found in the forests near Rasana, Hiranagar with torture marks and human bites on her body. She was also allegedly given electric shocks and her legs were brokenand she had been raped.Following the reports of arrest of police sub-inspector and head constable for their involvement in the rape and murder of Kathua minor, Inspector general Crime, Syed Afadul Mujtaba Thursday said that Crime Branch will submit the status report into the Kuthua rape and murder case to High Court on Friday.

The reports said that crime branch has arrested a police sub-inspector and a head constable for their involvement in destruction of crucial evidence. Hawaldar Tilak Raj, posted at the Hiranagar police station, was arrested after it was prima facie established that he had washed Asifa's clothes that were soaked in blood and mud before sending them for forensic test. Sub-inspector Anand Dutta, who was the investigative officer, has been detained for questioning, reported one of the National news channel. We arrested a hawaldar and a sub-inspector is being questioned in connection with destruction of evidence,"* the report quoted director general of police, SP Vaid as having said.

Two special police officers, Deepak Khajuria and Surinder Verma, have already been arrested, while two more persons, including a juvenile, have also been arrested for the kidnapping, rape and murder of Asifa, mentioned the report.

The Opposition National Conference and the Congress walked out of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Thursday in protest against the incident. They were joined by a legislator from the ruling People’s Democratic Party and an independent MLA.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri told the Assembly that a speedy inquiry has been initiated into the incident. However, Congress MLA Vikar Rasool said that atrocities were being committed on minorities in the state. “Why were policemen doing nothing for last one week; people are angry and protests are being held,” he said.

PDP MLA Chodhary Qamar Hussain joined the Opposition in protests and asked the state government to table the report within a day.

On January 23, the Mehbooba Mufti government had ordered a probe into the incident, and subsequently handed over the case to the Crime Branch of police. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said those guilty of the crime would be punished.
