Srinagar, July 27 (KNO) : Reflecting the non-seriousness of the school education department over 150 posts are lying vacant in the District Institute of Education and Training (DIETs) and State Institute of Education (SIE) over the past many years. As per the official documents obtained by KNO around 53 academic vacant are lying vacant in SIE which has hampered the overall academic activities in these institutes and is telling upon the research work being conducted by these institutes. Also, more than 107 posts are lying vacant in DIETs which has affected the working of these institutions in the state. A top source in the department told KNO that the posts are lying vacant due to the delay in ordering promotions in the department. The DIETs are nodal agency of school education department for providing academic resource and research support at district level for success of various programs undertaken at elementary education level by the school education department. “These institutes at district level have a separate annual allocation for undertaking various teachers’ training and research programs that aim at improving education standards at primary level,” an official told KNO. The official told that there is a sanctioned strength of around 15 lecturer posts, five to seven posts of head of departments (Principal rank post) and other staff for the institutes. “But most of the posts are vacant in these institutes across the state which hampers their functioning,” the official said. He said the outcome of these institutes remains negligible because of the reason that the department never pays attention to the functioning of these institutes. Given the poor performance of the DIETs and SIE, the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) has several times censured the state government over poor functioning of these institutes. “Given the laxity of department in giving attention to these institutes, there has been very less contribution of these institutes in improving the academic scenario in government schools,” the official said, adding that the institutes are not able to pay attention to academic standards of schools due to dearth of staff. “If government will fill all the vacant posts in the DIETs and institutes then only the staff can go for inspection of schools and review the overall academic scenario,” the official told KNO. Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Muhammad Younis Malik said the department is aware of the issue and is being looked into. “All the vacancies will be filled in a phased manner,” he told KNO. (KNO)
