Srinagar, Dec 25 (KNO): Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, on Thursday criticized the actions of a man inside a mosque saying he disrespected Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and asked authorities to step in before things get worse.
Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Grand Mufti said the actions of the individual were “unethical and a sign of ignorance”, adding that mosques and sacred spaces must be respected.
Notably, the call comes amid growing controversy triggered by a viral video circulating on social media that appears to show a man carrying a pigeon inside a mosque or near the pulpit area, sparking outrage across Kashmir.
Moreover, the footage has been widely shared on platforms including Facebook and Instagram.
Mufti Nasir also recalled that the former Mufti-e-Azam, and his father late Mufti Muhammad Bashiruddin (RA), along with respected scholars, had previously issued a fatwa of kufr against the same person based on similar actions and an order he said, “still stands”.
“I expect immediate intervention from the administration and the Director General of Police so that law and order is maintained,” the Grand Mufti said, urging authorities to act swiftly to prevent further unrest—(KNO)
