Sopore, Dec 17 (KNO): Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Baramulla, Mudasir Wani on Wednesday said that it will cancel driving licenses and blacklist the vehicle of the drivers found misbehaving with passengers or violating transport norms. Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Wani said he has directed all transport unions to closely monitor complaints of passenger harassment, overcharging and other misconduct by drivers. “Any driver found misbehaving with passengers will face cancellation of his driving licence and blacklisting of the vehicle,” he said. He urged the transporters and the general public to come forward with complaints related to misconduct, bribery and illegal practices at the ARTO office. The officer assured that the department will keep the identity of complainants confidential. Wani also said that illegal stands will not be tolerated in the district. “A joint drive with authorities from Jammu and Kashmir Police will begin soon to ensure no unauthorized stand operates here.” He also directed transport operators to prominently display approved rate lists at bus stands and inside vehicles for public awareness—warning that overcharging and overloading will invite strict action. The ARTO further informed that 15 driving licences have been suspended so far pertaining to NDPS-related cases. “53 habitual traffic violators have also faced similar action.” “We are suspending licences of drivers having more than three challans pending. Some vehicles in Baramulla have as many as 50 challans,” he revealed—(KNO)
