Srinagar, Jul 25 (KNO): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir on Saturday said it has filed a chargesheet against a Pattan resident for allegedly duping a youth of lakhs of rupees by promising him a rupees 90,000-per-month job in Cambodia, where the victim was instead forced into online scam operations. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet in FIR No. 19/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Mohd Yaseen Rather, son of Nisar Ahmad Rather, a resident of Kripalpora Payeen, Pattan, before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class. The spokesperson said the investigation was initiated following a complaint alleging that the accused fraudulently promised the complainant a job as a computer operator in Cambodia with a monthly salary of rupees 90,000. Believing the promise, the complainant transferred lakhs of rupees to the accused’s bank account and also spent substantial amounts on visa processing, travel and other related expenses. “However, upon reaching Cambodia, he was forced to engage in online scamming activities instead of being provided the promised employment. The investigation established the allegations as proved, and the chargesheet has accordingly been filed before the competent court,” the spokesperson said. The spokesperson advised the public to remain vigilant against such economic frauds and report any such incidents to the SSP, EOW Kashmir (Crime Branch J&K). Victims of economic fraud may also submit complaints via email at sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in.—(KNO)
