Srinagar, Feb 12 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 201 registered civilian drones, while no drone has been registered in Ladakh so far, the Government of India informed Parliament on Thursday. As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the information was shared in the Lok Sabha in response to a question raised by MP Smt Sajda Ahmed regarding the promotion and regulation of civilian drones in the country. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, a total of 38,475 drones have been issued Unique Identification Numbers (UIN) across the country till January 31, 2026, of which 201 belong to Jammu and Kashmir, while Ladakh reported zero registrations. The Ministry said the government has taken several steps to promote the use of drones for developmental purposes, particularly in rural and remote areas, including applications in healthcare delivery, agriculture, disaster management and infrastructure mapping. It said the Drone Rules, 2021, along with subsequent amendments, aim to ensure safe and regulated operations while improving ease of doing business. Nearly 90 per cent of India’s airspace has been designated as green zones, where drone operations can be carried out without prior permission, while operations in red and yellow zones require necessary approvals. To prevent misuse, the rules mandate type certification, a valid Remote Pilot Certificate, training through DGCA-authorised institutions and a Unique Identification Number for each drone. The government has also prohibited the use of drones for carrying arms, explosives or other dangerous goods—(KNO)
