Srinagar, May 30 (KNO): As Agricultural activities, including paddy cultivation, begin across the Kashmir valley, officials at the Irrigation and Flood Control Department of Kashmir (I&FC) on Friday said that there was sufficient water available for agricultural activities across the region. A top IFC official, while speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that all major water bodies, including canals across the valley, were currently well-irrigated and there were no signs of water shortage. “Yes, we have enough water available. Everything is irrigated well in our canals. We take stock on a daily basis from various divisions,” the official said. The official added that concerns about water scarcity or the need for lifting pumps are currently unfounded. “There is no requirement for lifting pumps this time. The water levels are adequate, and the recent rainfall has further replenished the system,” the senior officer said. The official added that recent wet spells had stabilised the situation. “Yes, everything is charged. As of now, there is no problem. We had a minor issue in one of the areas in central Kashmir with one canal, but that was rectified promptly,” the official said. The top officer said that the department was closely monitoring the situation and there was no disruption in irrigation for farmers at present. “As such, there is no problem anywhere. Agricultural activities are proceeding smoothly, the officer said. The official also confirmed that intermittent rainfall over the past one day, along with forecasted showers, was further supporting the valley’s water needs for the ongoing farming season—(KNO)
