Srinagar, Apr 16 (KNO): The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Thursday forecast generally cloudy conditions with intermittent spells of light rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir till April 19, with a possibility of gusty winds and hailstorms at isolated places. An official of the MeT department told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that from April 17 to 19, the weather is likely to remain generally cloudy, with intermittent spells of light rain and thundershowers at many places, particularly during morning and late evening hours. He also warned of gusty winds with speeds reaching 40–50 kmph and the possibility of hailstorms at a few locations during this period. The weather is expected to improve from April 20 to 24, with generally dry conditions likely to prevail across the Union Territory. Similar conditions are forecast for April 25 and 26, although brief spells of light rain or thundershower with gusty winds may occur at isolated places towards the afternoon. Meanwhile, gusty winds reported in several parts of Kashmir on Thursday evening caused damage to rooftops, electricity poles and other infrastructure, officials said. There were also reports of minor disruptions to power supply in some areas following the strong winds. The MeT department has issued an advisory asking farmers to suspend farm operations from April 17 to 19 in view of the expected weather activity, including rain, gusty winds and possible hailstorms. Officials said the advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure to minimise potential damage to crops and ensure safety during adverse weather conditions. The department has urged people to remain cautious, especially during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms, and to follow official advisories—(KNO)
