Srinagar, Sep 24 (KNO): The Health and Medical Education Department has informed the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly that Rs 24.78 crore has been allocated under the UT Capex Budget 2026-27 to meet machinery and equipment requirements in the health sector across Rajouri district.
The information, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), was provided in response to a question raised by Kalakote-Sunderbani MLA Randhir Singh regarding the allocation and utilisation of health sector funds in the district.
According to the department, of the total allocation, Rs 12.50 crore has been earmarked for the establishment of a Cath Lab at Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri, Rs 8.17 crore for Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Nowshera, and Rs 4.11 crore for liquidation of liabilities at GMC Rajouri.
The department said fund allocation is carried out in accordance with scheme guidelines, while also considering priorities and the funding needs of ongoing projects.
It added that the focus remains on completing ongoing works rather than spreading resources across multiple new projects. Around 70 per cent of Capex funding is generally utilised for ongoing works, leaving limited scope for new initiatives.
The remaining funds are used to address infrastructure and service gaps in line with Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) and National Medical Commission (NMC) norms, based on requirements projected by the concerned departments.
The government also disclosed that a proposal for installation of an MRI facility at GMC Rajouri was submitted under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) through the Social Welfare Department. The proposal was returned by the Government of India seeking certain clarifications, which have since been furnished and the proposal resubmitted.
The department said the process for establishing the MRI facility will be initiated once the proposal is approved and funds are released by the concerned ministry.
