Srinagar, Oct 31 (KNO): The Health and Medical Education Department Minister Sakina Itoo on Friday said that services at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Sopore will be upgraded as per IPHS-2022 norms and no Maternity and Child Care (M&CC) hospital has been sanctioned for Sopore town. Responding to a question by MLA Irshad Rasool, Health Minister, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), stated in a written reply that District Hospital is a highest-level secondary health care institution functioning in a district. “In Baramulla district, the District Hospital was functioning at District Headquarter, Baramulla. To augment/ improve the health care services at District Hospital Baramulla, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the centrally sponsored scheme ‘Establishment of New Medical Colleges attached with existing District/Referral Hospitals’ has approved establishment of Government Medical College at Baramulla with District Hospital Baramulla serving as its Associated Hospital. The move has up-graded the status of already existing District Hospital Baramulla to enable it to provide tertiary healthcare services. The healthcare services of the Hospital after acquiring the status of Associated Hospital has manifold increased for better patient care,” she said. “The facilities/services of SDH Sopore shall be improved as per the IPHS-2022 norms keeping in view the workload and patient footfall. As such, the Department shall prioritize the appropriate upgradation as per the extant norms once the decision for such upgradation is given a nod,” she said. Sakina said that no Mother and Child Care Hospital is sanctioned for Sopore town. Mother and Child Care Services were earlier provided by the Department at old SDH Sopore. “After the shifting of SDH Sopore to the new building, the services are presently provided at New OT Block of SDH Sopore.” “However, under Centrally Sponsored Scheme Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), one urban Health and Wellness Centre/AAM is approved and is functioning in one of the existing buildings in old campus of SDH Sopore,” Sakina added—(KNO)
