Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government has initiated multiple measures to tackle the increasing incidents of wild boar intrusion and crop damage in Theed area of Khanyar Constituency, located near Dachigam National Park. In a written reply to a question by Ali Mohammad Sagar, the Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the Wildlife Protection Department has completed about 2 kilometres of toe walling along the existing chain-link fencing around the Dachigam National Park to control the movement of wild boars. The reply further states that a 24x7 Human-Animal Conflict Control Room has been set up at Theed Village near Dachigam Gate to monitor wildlife movement and ensure regular patrolling in the area. “To reduce straying of wild boars into agriculture and horticulture fields, field staff are using firecrackers and noise guns, while regular cleanliness drives are being carried out in and around the park to ensure proper garbage and food-waste disposal,” the department said. The government added that the Srinagar Municipal Corporation provides one load carrier on alternate days for waste clearance, while community awareness programmes are being conducted to educate locals on preventive measures and safe garbage management—(KNO)
