File Pic The sources said the six injured soldiers were airlifted from the border town to the army’s base hospital in Srinagar city amid heavy firing continued inside the camp which was attacked around 5.30 a.m. by fidayeen (suicide) militants. “Fidayeen attacked the rear base camp of an infantry battalion and not the headquarters of 12 Brigade in Uri today (Sunday) morning which is posted on the Line of Control (LoC),” the sources added. In New Delhi, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh is reported to have cancelled his visit to Russia and the US. He has called for a high-level meeting on Sunday to discuss the situation is Kashmir. (File Pic: Hakeem Abid) Bodies of two of the fidayeen have been discovered, top sources told Kashmir Dispatch, adding that firing has stopped and the area was quarantined. Special forces of the army were air dropped to fight the fidayeen. Sources had told Kashmir Dispatch that 3 to 4 rebels were present in Indian army’s brigade headquarters located in the border town which is situated over 100 kms from region’s summer capital Srinagar. Sources said that the rebels may have infiltrated from Pakistan-Kashmir in the last few days. “Rebels entered the camp and intense firing and explosions were heard”, a senior police officer said. The brigade headquarters is situated in Uri town of north Kashmir’s Varmul district close to the Line of Control– that divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan. A massive search operation is on.
