Jammu: A Border Security Force (BSF) man was killed and three BSF jawans and four army men were injured in heavy shelling from Pakistan side across LoC in Manjakote area of Rajouri district last night.
Officials said Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling in Manjakote area last night in which four soldiers of army and three BSF jawans got splinter injuries. Later one of them, Head Constable Rai Singh, from Kheri Sapala in Haryana succumbed to injuries. The fire was returned by India soldiers.
Reports from Poonch said heavy exchange of firing and shellingtook place at half a dozen places along LoC since today morning. The Pakistan troops resorted to heavy firing and shelling at posts in Mendhar and Balakote sector today Monday morning.
One person namely Abdul Aziz, 52, of Basooni village of Dharana Mendhar was injured by splinter of mortar shell fired by Pakistan army at about 1:35 pm today. He has been admitted in SDH Mendhar. As a result of the shelling, Sub Divisional Magistrate of Mendhar Thakar Singh ordered postponement of examinations in schools falling in or close to the area of shelling.
In the meantime, a gunfight broke out between suspected militants and government forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Saujiyan sector of Poonch on Monday. A BSF official said that they challenged a group of 7-8 militants in Makhiyari area of Sawjian sector of Poonch today morning.
