Clashes erupted in Sopore town of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Thursday after youth staged a protest against the hanging of Afzal Guru.
After Zuhar prayers, hundreds of youth took to streets in Main chowk, Main Bazar and Batpora areas of the town and staged protests.
The protesters were demanding the mortal remains of Afzal Guru who was secretly hanged and buried in Tihar jail in New Delhi.
Police and paramilitary personnel deployed in the area lobbed teargas shells to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes.
