Srinagar, Apr 12 (KNO): The Jammu & Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd. (J&K MSCL) has sought Rs 240 crore from government for procuring equipment to tackle the pandemic, sources in government disclosed.
Highly placed sources told wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that MSCL has submitted a proposal to J&K government for procurement of ventilators, personal protection equipment kits, masks and other items to equip hospitals and medical staff with requisite facilities to tackle the deadly epidemic.
“They have proposed requirement of Rs 240. 19 crore for purchasing the equipment,” they said, adding that Health & Medical Education has so far released Rs 100 crore to the Corporation to procure the equipment and medicines on “war-footing basis”.
The proposal was submitted by the MSCL few weeks ago. Principal Secretary, Health & Medical Education department Atal Duloo did not pick up phone despite repeated attempts.
As per KNO, based on the demand of health institutions in J&K, the MSCL has proposed to procure different equipment and items including 2.5 lakh N95 masks, 16 lakh triple layer masks, 100 ventilators and 1000 personal protection equipment kits.
The demand has been made by the MSCL at a time when J&K is struggling to control spread of deadly coronavirus which has infected 217 persons so far.
This also includes 4 deaths- 3 in Kashmir and one in Jammu. The MSCL is a fully owned public sector undertaking of the government of Jammu & Kashmir, which has the mandate for procurement and supply of quality drugs, medicines, surgical items and equipment to various health institutions in the Union Territory—(KNO)
