Srinagar, Jul 01 (KNO): Amid a severe heatwave sweeping across Kashmir, Srinagar Police on Tuesday joined community-led efforts by distributing water bottles and refreshments among Muharram mourners in different parts of the city. Today, in Gund Hassi Bhat, near the outskirts of Srinagar city in Lawaypora, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Majid, along with other senior police officers, was seen personally offering drinking water to Shia mourners. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the gesture was widely applauded on social media and also earned praise from residents for the compassionate approach shown by the police force. Notably, since the beginning of Muharram, locals and volunteers had already set up refreshment points across Srinagar, offering water, rose water and other drinks among the general public. Similarly, a team from Shaltang Police Station also distributed water bottles in Lawaypora and other adjoining areas to help mourners cope with the intense summer heat. Moreover, Murtaza Ali, a local volunteer from Srinagar, said they have been distributing water and rose water since the beginning of Muharram. “Today, seeing the police officers doing the same was heartening. It shows they stand with the people,” he said. Junaid, another local, said it was heartwarming to see senior police officers serve water with their own hands—(KNO)
