Ganderbal, Jun 05 (KNO): In a significant boost to regional connectivity and public welfare, MLA Kangan, Mian Mehar Ali, inaugurated the much-awaited Jammu & Kashmir Road Transport Corporation J&K RTC) bus service from Gund to Srinagar Thursday. The flag-off ceremony, held in Gund, was attended by local officials, and residents. The launch marks a long-pending demand fulfilled for the people of the region, who have often faced difficulties commuting due to a lack of reliable transport options. Calling the new service a “significant relief,” Mian Mehar Ali stated, “This bus service will bring much-needed ease to the daily lives of students, laborers, and the elderly who travel to Srinagar for work, education, or healthcare. It is a step toward bridging the distance between rural and urban areas.” In a landmark announcement welcomed with loud applause, the MLA declared that bus rides on this route would be free of cost for all women passengers. “Women in our region often face mobility barriers. This initiative is a small but meaningful step toward empowering them and ensuring safe, accessible transportation,” he added. Locals were quick to express their appreciation. Shabnam Jan, a school teacher from Gund, said, “This is the first time in years we feel seen and supported. The free rides for women will make a real difference in our daily lives.” Ghulam Nabi Dar, a government employee, echoed the sentiment: “This bus will change things for us. Travel to Srinagar used to be a struggle, but now it’s dependable and affordable.” The J&K RTC has confirmed that the buses will run daily with multiple departures between Gund and Srinagar. Detailed schedules and ticketing information will be announced in the coming days—(KNO)
