J&K Handloom Corporation exploiting opportunities for promotion of Handloom in the state | KNO

J&K Handloom Corporation is exploiting various opportunities to mobile resources to promote and operate schemes for Handloom Development in the state. More than thirty seven (37) thousand existing looms will get all possible support to sustain this non-form rural employment sector.

Efforts will also be made to make available the pre-loom and post loom facilities to above thirty five (35) thousand registered weavers through coordination with the administrative department.

Disclosing this to union leaders of the corporation Vice Chairman JKHC & JKHDC Nizamudin Bhat said that the management is devoted to quality manufacturing of traditional handloom items like blankets, woolen fabrics, cotton prints, Pashmina and Kani Shawls.

Bhat sought the cooperation of employees and weavers in its endure to fully demonstrate the strength of Kashmir Handloom in its richness and diversity.

He said the production of Handloom through corporation should be able to double its target from the present capacity of 15.52 lac meters. Similarly the number of quality Shawls produced has to be doubled as an evidence from process and product development as well as improvement in marketing and market development.

Bhat said while central projects like IWWDC have helped to sustain resource, State governments budgetary support enhancement and Assistance under TAMIER is helping to meet out liabilities. He said state government recently released on Crore to clear the Bank dues. Similarly , finance department is actively considering further support for Revival of Business plan of the corporation.

Similar steps are taken to make the handicrafts sector more vibrant. The handicrafts corporation despite odds is gradually improving the business to double the sales target for current year from 20 to 40 crores.

Bhat, however, regretted that both corporations are not able to wash off service liabilities and other statutory liabilities which have piled up over the years.

He appealed the government to help two corporations as one-time support to meet out the salary liabilities on Eid eve so that distress of employees is addressed and their potential is channelized for improving health of the corporations.
