Srinagar, February 09 (KNO) : Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) on Saturday organized a day-long program at Tarzoo, Sopore, the ancestral home of Mohammad Afzal Guru, to remember him, on his sixth anniversary. Afzal was hanged to death in Tihar jail, Delhi on February 9, 2013 after ‘a conspiracy was hatched against him’. Senior workers and office bearers of JKDFP had raised banners and posters at the residence of Afzal Guru and the party received the guests throughout the day who participated in the daylong program to remember Afzal Guru, the statement issued to KNO said. While addressing the present gathering, JKDFP office bearers said that Kashmir resistance history is full of the stories of brave hearts who are the real heroes of the nation. “They include Afzal Guru and Mohammad Maqbool Bhat who have been hanged and buried in Tihar jail on February 9, 3013 and February 11, 1984 respectively,” they said. They said that hanging of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat has not deterred Kashmiri people from demanding their right to self determination and it has instead produced thousands of Afzals and Maqbools who are continuously scripting an extraordinary history of resistance. They appealed global Human Rights Organisations, like UNCHR, Asia Watch, Amnesty International and others to play their role in returning the mortal remains of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat to their legal heirs.(KNO)
