Srinagar, June 13 (KNO): A major controversy has erupted over purported letters from three different political parties seeking security cover for former deputy mayor Sheikh Muhammad Imran
While National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party described the letters as fake, BJP owned the recommendation letter made by it for providing security cover to Imran
A letter written by BJP general secretary Ashok Koul to IGP Security for retaining security cover of Sheikh Imran went viral on social media this afternoon. “I strongly recommend for the security cover of Mr Sheikh Imran S/O Sheikh Mushtaq R/O Nishat Srinagar ex- deputy mayor of Srinagar,” reads the letter written by Koul to IGP security. The letter claims that “being ex-deputy mayor and political leader of Srinagar, he is on the radar of anti-national forces and sometimes feels hostile situation due to lack of security”.
A few hours later, two more letters, purportedly written by former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, with similar recommendation for Imran also went viral on social media. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to twitter to deny of him making any such recommendation and asked Jammu & Kashmir Police to take action in the matter.
“To whom it may concern in @JmuKmrPolice police in this letter being circulated purportedly from me recommending security for someone is a fake and my signature on it is a forgery. This is a criminal offence & must be investigated . I was in detention on the date in this letter,” Omar tweeted.
Peoples Democratic also asked Jammu and Kashmir Police to take severe note of the act .“ #Fake Baseless and utterly malicious. Mehbooba Mufti continues to be incarcerated for past more than 10 months and no such request has been ever made . Request @JmuKmrPolice @Tahir to take a severe note of this and act accordingly,” PDP tweeted.
Meanwhile, BJP general secretary, Ashok Koul owned the recommendation letter. “It is my letter with my signature. I have just recommended security cover for him. It depends on government whether to provide him security or him,” he said—(KNO)
