Srinagar, Apr 08 (KNO): The government is mulling to include Artificial Intelligence (AI) in school curriculum across Jammu and Kashmir. According to the official notes available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), authorities have said that the School Education Department has said that the introduction of AI as a subject or discipline is under active consideration in the department in alignment with NEP 2020. Furthermore, the department has said that coding and vocational education subjects have already been introduced at different levels of schooling in a phased manner depending upon the levels of institution and availability of infrastructure, trained manpower and other requisite facilities. It also said that the components relating to General Studies, Digital Literacy, Computer Education and vocational skill-based learning have been introduced at different levels depending on infrastructure and trained manpower. The official notes further reveal that Computer Science, Information Practices and IT have already been introduced as separate subjects at the higher secondary level, covering Classes XI and XII. It also reveals that vocational education with 15 trades is being implemented in high and higher secondary schools in line with the National Education Policy 2020. About the curriculum review, the official notes said that 21st century skills outlined in the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023 are being implemented in a phased manner. These include critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, digital literacy and problem solving. It also said that digital literacy and skill education are embedded from the foundational stage and are not treated as standalone subjects at the elementary level. However, at secondary and senior secondary stages, these are also offered as elective subjects alongside their integration across disciplines. The government notes also said that teachers are being trained to incorporate these competencies in classroom teaching to ensure students acquire relevant skills and learning outcomes in a holistic manner—(KNO)
