Srinagar records below-normal temps; light rain forecast for J&K | KNO

Srinagar, May 14 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir witnessed generally mild weather on Thursday, with the Meteorological Department forecasting light rain, thundershowers and gusty winds at scattered places over the next two days. According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 22.8 degrees Celsius, which was 1.5 degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 8.6 degrees Celsius, 2.3 degrees below normal. As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Jammu city recorded the highest maximum temperature in the region at 34.8 degrees Celsius, though it remained 2.3 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature there was 21.1 degrees Celsius, 2.9 degrees below normal. Gulmarg, the famous ski resort in north Kashmir, recorded a maximum temperature of 15.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 3 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam registered 19.6 degrees Celsius as the maximum and 4.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum. The MeT office said isolated places in Kashmir and Jammu divisions received light rainfall during the day. Pahalgam recorded 3 mm rainfall, while Qazigund and Kukernag received 0.8 mm each. It said the weather is likely to remain partly to generally cloudy on May 15 and 16, with light rain, thundershowers and gusty winds expected at scattered to many places across the Union Territory. The department has issued an advisory warning of thunder, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph at a few places in Kashmir and Jammu divisions during the two days. “People have been advised to suspend boating and shikara riding generally towards the afternoon and late afternoon hours,” the advisory said. The MeT office said weather conditions are likely to remain generally dry on May 17 and 18, while another spell of light rain and thundershower is expected at scattered places on May 19 and 20—(KNO)
