SKUAST-K scientists condemn summoning of Naseem Geelani by NIA | KNO

“The NIA has summoned Dr Syed Naseem Geelani, scientist SKUAST-Kashmir again to their New Delhi headquarters for questioning in connection with an alleged funding case.

The scientific fraternity of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences Technology (SKUAST) Kashmir have condemned summoning of their colleague Dr Syed Naseem Geelani, by National Investigation Agency (NIA). “The NIA has summoned Dr Syed Naseem Geelani, scientist SKUAST-Kashmir again to their New Delhi headquarters for questioning in connection with an alleged funding case. According to our scientist, NIA had told him that he was not required to visit Delhi again. Arbitrary summoning and quizzing of Dr Naseem amounts to harassment and mental torture of such a scientist of reputes besides affecting the university academics,” president SSTA, Dr S.A. Dar said in a statement. “If anything happens to our scientist than state government and GOI will wholly responsible. He has attended the NIA, New Delhi thrice and has attended three rounds of questioning to NIA headquarters, New Delhi. By frequently summoning Dr Naseem to New Delhi, a lot of time is involved in this process he loses the opportunities in his teaching, research and other academic activities which are going to affect his career besides the academic activities of the university in a very worst manner,” the statement said. “SSTA appeals NIA to quiz our scientist at Srinagar or through telecommunication. He should not be summoned to Delhi as it not only burdens his pocket but also affects academic activities of the university,” the statement added.
