CM Omar announces Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia relief for NoKs of deceased; Visits bereaved family of ADC Rajouri, affected areas in Jammu; interacts with civil society members

Srinagar, May 10 (KNO): The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government on Friday announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives recently, terming it a gesture of support and solidarity. In a post on X, the Office of Chief Minister J&K, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), wrote: "Deeply pained by the loss of innocent lives due to recent shelling from Pakistan. My Government is taking every possible measure to minimise the hardship of our people." The Chief Minister visited the bereaved family of ADC Rajouri, Dr Raj Kumar Thapa, who lost his life due to shelling by Pakistan. “Paid my heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa, JKAS, ADDC Rajouri who lost his life in the line of duty today due to shelling by Pakistan. His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. The Government stands firmly with his family in this hour of grief,” the CM's office wrote. Earlier, Omar Abdullah described the loss as devastating and expressed his shock and sadness. "Devastating news from Rajouri. We have lost a dedicated officer of the J&K Administration Services. Just yesterday, he was accompanying the Deputy CM around the district and attended an online meeting I chaired. Today, his residence was hit by Pakistani shelling. I have no words to express my shock and sadness at this terrible loss of life. May his soul rest in peace," the Chief Minister's office stated. He also visited Rehari and Roopnagar areas in Jammu to assess the damage caused by recent shelling. "Visited Rehari and Roopnagar in Jammu today to see the damage caused by shelling. The pain and disruption faced by residents is deeply concerning. We stand with every affected family and will ensure all necessary support is provided without delay," the post added. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, along with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, later held an interaction with civil society members. “After returning from Jammu today afternoon, I, along-with Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, held an interaction with Civil Society members. Grateful for their insights and concerns. I urged the members to act as ambassadors of trust—reaching out to people with the message that the government is fully alert and committed to safeguarding every citizen. Together, we shall prevail,” the CM's office said—(KNO)
