Srinagar, Nov 14 (KNO): In his speeches in Budgam, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma repeatedly predicted the loss of National Conference in the seat, which has been its bastion. His political forecast proved correct on Friday after NC lost the poll battle.
Sharma, who catapulted to centre stage in J&K politics after outmaneuvering the National Conference in the Rajya Sabha polls, predicted that NC would bite the dust in the poll battle of Budgam.
"On November 14, NC will lose in Budgam. Take it in writing that NC's arrogance, its betrayal and falsehood will be decimated. I can say with authority that NC will lose," Sharma said while thumping the desk during a rally in Ompora, Budgam, per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Sharma, who has a better knack and understanding of Kashmir politics, was up to the mark as NC lost the seat.
During the campaign, Sharma proved more effective than Kashmir-based political parties in neutralising the impact of Omar Abdullah's allegations that non-NC parties have an understanding with BJP.
To corner his rivals, CM Omar repeatedly accused them of having an understanding with BJP and of their past alliances with it. In an apparent retaliation, Sharma accused the Chief Minister of trying to form an alliance with BJP, a claim rebutted by Omar.
The central theme of Sharma's campaign was to counter the BJP-tag narrative created by National Conference- an ammunition the party has used successfully to bury its political opponents in Kashmir since 2019.
