National Conference on Monday lashed out at Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and the PDP-BJP Government for its “insensitivity demonstrated yet again by the fact that hundreds of youth and students have not been released ahead of Eid.”

In a statement issued from Party Headquarters in Srinagar, NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani said the State Govt’s refusal to release the detained and arrested youth exposed PDP’s claims of ‘healing-touch’ and amnesty and exposed the brutal and repressive face of the alliance Government.

“This Government has left no stone unturned to harass and hound the youth of the Valley without taking any positive and reconciliatory steps to address the underlying and growing sense of alienation.

Treating alienated youth through a conventional law and order mechanism won’t address the issue but would compound the alienation. Now, the Govt’s refusal to release hundreds of these young boys so that they could spend Eid with their families is shocking and extremely tragic”, Wani said.

He said the PDP-BJP Government had waged a war against the youth of the State and its decision to not release arrested young students and youth on the auspicious occasion of Eid reflected how the Chief Minister had no empathy for the youth who have suffered unimaginable hardships over the past two years.
