Srinagar, June 8 (KNO): Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq on Monday paid tributes to Moulvi Mushtaq Ahmad on his 22nd martyrdom anniversary, remembering him as a compassionate leader, advocate of peace and dialogue and a dedicated public servant whose contributions continue to be remembered across Kashmir.
In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, in a post on X, paid rich tributes to his late uncle, the distinguished socio-political activist and senior member of the AAC, Shaheed-e-Masjid Moulvi Mushtaq Ahmad, on his 22nd martyrdom anniversary, describing his contribution and humanitarian service to society and the party as invaluable and unforgettable.
Remembering him, the Mirwaiz said Shaheed Moulvi Mushtaq Ahmad was a deeply loved and respected member of the Mirwaiz family, known for his exceptionally kind, compassionate, and selfless nature, and his deep commitment to public service.
He said his dedication to helping the poor and needy and serving the people made him an invaluable asset to society and the party, adding that his loss continues to be keenly felt even today.
The Mirwaiz further said Moulvi Mushtaq Ahmad was a strong advocate of conciliation, peace and dialogue, and would reach out even to those with whom he ideologically disagreed for the greater good of society and the benefit of the people.
He said it was for this advocacy of reconciliation and dialogue that he ultimately paid with his life when he fell to the bullets of assassins while offering namaz in a mosque.
Recalling his political journey, the Mirwaiz said that in October 1965, Moulvi Mushtaq Ahmad, along with Shaheed-e-Millat Moulvi Muhammad Farooq (RA), was arrested and spent more than two and a half years in prison, enduring hardships and interrogations with patience and courage for his beliefs. Till his martyrdom, he remained dedicated to the principles and ideals of the party and worked tirelessly for them.
The Mirwaiz further stated that after the martyrdom of Shaheed-e-Millat, Moulvi Mushtaq Ahmad stood by him like a rock, supporting and advising him through difficult years. “His death was another huge personal loss for me and the family,” the Mirwaiz said.
He added that till his martyrdom, Moulvi Mushtaq Ahmad upheld the noble traditions of his ancestors and family and will always be remembered with love and respect.
Later, a special Duaiya Majlis was held at the Head Office of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam, where members of the Anjuman and people from different walks of life gathered to remember the life and contributions of Shaheed-e-Masjid Moulvi Mushtaq Ahmad. Fateha was offered and special prayers were made for the elevation of his ranks in Jannat-ul-Firdous.—(KNO)
