Srinagar, Aug 13 (KNO): Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Thursday directed forces to step up patrolling, checking and surveillance at vulnerable locations. According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) DGP Prabhat chaired a high-level security meeting at the Police Control Room here and reviewed the security preparedness across Jammu and Kashmir. An official said that the meeting was attended by senior Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) officers and it focused on security deployment, intelligence inputs, traffic management, route security, access control and surveillance. The DGP called for greater coordination between the police, CAPFs and other security agencies, stressing the need for intelligence-based action and quick response to any emerging threat. The official said that security arrangements at major Independence Day venues were also discussed, with particular attention given to Srinagar's Bakshi Stadium, the main venue for the UT-level celebrations. Officials were directed to ensure adequate security and access-control measures at the stadium while regulating traffic and movement of people around the venue, they said. DGP Prabhat also ordered intensified night patrolling and naka checking, particularly at vulnerable points and along inter-district borders. Frisking and surveillance measures are being strengthened at important locations as part of the pre-Independence Day security exercise. The meeting also reviewed anti-sabotage measures, route security and deployment of personnel at key venues across Jammu and Kashmir. The police chief directed officers to adhere strictly to standard operating procedures and maintain close coordination among different security formations to ensure a peaceful conduct of the celebrations. Senior officers from the J&K Police, BSF, CRPF, SSB and other security formations, besides range and district police chiefs, attended the meeting. Pertinently the review came amid heightened security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Independence Day, with security agencies carrying out increased checking and surveillance in the run-up to August 15—(KNO)
