Raking up a storm, JNU student rights activist Shehla Rashid today tweeted that it seemed like RSS and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari were planning to assassinate PM Narendra Modi. She followed up her tweet with '#RajivGandhiStyle', possibly referring to claims in a letter, allegedly written by Maoists, which carried details of plans by the outfit to conduct a Rajiv Gandhi type incident and target the PM. "Looks like RSS/Gadkari is planning to assassinate Modi, and then blame it upon Muslims/Communists and then lynch Muslims #RajivGandhiStyle," she tweeted.

Later in the day, Gadkari tweeted in response to what she said saying he would take action against anti-social elements making bizarre comments against him. "I would be taking legal action on anti-social elements who have made bizzare comments; attributing personal motives to me, regarding the assassination threat to PM @narendramodi," he tweeted. A plot to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a "Rajiv Gandhi-type" incident has been revealed in a letter the Pune Police claimed to have seized from five persons arrested in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon violence.

Former PM Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in Sriperumbedur, Tamil Nadu, on May 21, 1991 by a suicide bomber from Sri Lanka during campaigning. The Pune Police claimed that the April 18 letter, written by R to one "comrade Prakash", was found in the laptop of Rona Wilson, a human rights activist and alleged Maoist, according to news agency PTI. Wilson was arrested along with Sudhir Dhawale, Surendra Gadling, Mahesh Raut and Shoma Sen on Wednesday.
